Monica Lewis-Wilborn

Monica Lewis-Wilborn is the Director of Communications for the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). She is responsible for managing and overseeing DBHIDS’ Communications Department around all activities related to communication. She provides leadership in developing proactive communications strategies – both internal and external – community relations and public engagement programming to support the organization’s vision, mission and values.
Lewis-Wilborn possesses nearly 20 years of experience as a writer and communications professional. Her areas of expertise include media relations, cause marketing, event planning & production and social media marketing. A highly-skilled collaborator and visionary leader, she has managed communications functions for a variety of nonprofit organizations, leveraging her relationships, writing and organizational skills to help strengthen brand awareness, increase donor and volunteer engagement and generate millions of dollars through the development of strategic philanthropy collateral materials and planning of special events. She is very passionate about using her skills and knowledge to help individuals and families get access to services and resources that will positively impact their lives and communities.
Lewis-Wilborn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and a Master of Science degree in Journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, N.Y.
